Topics
Tarpaulin shelters
Using tarps is an essential skill for a quick pack down rain shelter in any environment. I cover easy to learn knots, setup, risks to watch out for, pack down, and tips to get the most out of your tarp. I supply different types of tarp to play with.
Primitive arrow making
Develop a deep connection to your ancestors and learn to make a replica of arrows that were known to have been used 5,000 years ago. A satisfying process that includes wood selection and processing, slate stone shaping, notch carving, feather shaping, and fine whipping to secure the point and feather.
Axe skills
Learn the anatomy of an axe and it's uses, safety, and techniques for splitting wood.
Map reading and navigation
Learn how to use an OS map and compass to orient your position and move between waymarkers.
Fire lighting
Everyone loves fire! But there's so much to it...from selecting tinder materials to processing wood and setting up fire lays, we'll look at the 6 different methods of creating heat and the array of primitive, natural and modern man made materials used in fire lighting.
Water purification
Explore how to gather water, and filter it, why drinking water may be harmful and how to purify it. Make improvised water filters using natural materials.
Open fire cooking
Try cooking on the open fire, many options available including flat bread, nettle soup, native American style trout, elderberry syrup, and stews.
Natural shelters
Construct a survival style shelter using natural materials
Knife skills
Using bushcraft knives and carving knives is a skill. I'll show you how to maintain safety above all else, and we'll cover 5 different grips for holding the knife and carving efficiently. We'll go through stages from carving tent pegs and stakes to useful notches, right through to carving small objects like a decorative owl or a Swedish style butter knife.

Try teas made from wild woodland plants
Natural cordage
Learn the skills of our ancestors in making strings and binding cords from various plants such as nettles, and these cords can be made into bracelets or zip toggles.

All costs are the total fee for the whole course (not per person). Max group size 8
Education and charities - 1.5 hours - £50
Half day - 3 hours - £140
Full day - 6 hours - £220
Overnight wild camp - including dinner and hammock hire - from £350
Corporate team building - £65 p.p.

Fees include private woodland, use of equipment and insurance. Some topics require a supplement for larger group sizes
